USFAA 2009 Alumni Award Winners

The University of South Florida Alumni Association will honor the recipients of its 2009 Alumni Awards during USF’s Homecoming weekend, November 20 and 21, 2009.

• Distinguished Alumnus Award: Dr. Lee Kump, PhD, `86
• Donald A Gifford Alumni Service Award: Charles Baumann, `71
• Class of `56 Award: Olin Mott
• Outstanding Young Alumnus Award: Shaun Robinson, `05

WIDTH: 105px; HEIGHT: 140px Dr. Lee Kump, PhD, `86 - Distinguished Alumnus recipient

• Professor of Geosciences, Penn State University

• In addition to writing or co-authoring more than 70 journal articles and 19 book chapters, he has been recognized by both the Geological Society of America and the Geological Society of London

• Serves as Reviewing Editor for Science, one of the top two science publications in the world

• Served or is serving on numerous academic committees, including the Marine Sciences Minor Committee, Earth Systems Minor Committee, Strategic Planning Committee, Geosciences Department, Promotion and Tenure Committee

• Developed and taught 17 different courses and directed 17 Ph.D and Master's theses

Charles Baumann, `71 - Donald A. Gifford Alumni Service recipient

• Corporate Accountant, Kerkering, Barberio and Co., P.A.

• University of South Florida Foundation Board

• Became Vice Chairman of the first Sarasota/Manatee Campus Board in 2001 and served for 8 years.

• Helped start the original Brunch on the Bay celebration for Sarasota/Manatee Campus which raises funds for Scholarships

• Recently appointed to the USF Research Foundation Board

• Instrumental in creating the Mote-USF Marine Sence partnership


Olin Mott - Class of `56 recipient

• Founder/Chairman of the Board, Olin Mott Tire Company

• Member of the original Tampa Chamber of Commerce group that secured the property for the University of South Florida. Also assisted with the campaign to start football at USF


• Supporter and donor to several causes, including Dream Center, Hillsborough County 4H Clubs and Hillsborough County TOPS Youth Soccer for handicapped children

• Co-Founder and Board Secretary Joshua House

• Treasurer of the Michelin-Joshua House Classic, Inc., which provides endowment support for the Joshua House and the USF Sun Coast Area Teacher Training Honors Scholarship Program


Shaun Robinson, `05 - Outstanding Young Alumnus recipient

• CEO and President of Strong College Students, Inc., a full service commercial and residential moving company. His company has grown to employ over 70 students since its inception and is the fastest growing moving company in Florida.

• Through his business, he pledges one year of membership for customers who are USF alumni and choose to move with SCS. SCS also sponsors graduating staffs’ first year of Alumni membership.

• Chair of the USF Alumni Association's Greater Tampa Area Chapter (2008-present).

• While attending USF, Robinson was active in many organizations including the Student Government Senate, Campus Activity Board and the USF Alumni Associations’ Legislative Internship Program.
